sorry, i dont' know if my last comment was posted or not -- i just wanted to say that the royal we are waiting for more posts from you, on LA organizing and on organizing in general... thanks for the cool blog.
There is a kind of foolish anti-imperialism that treats any regime in conflict with the USA as some kind of "objective" ally.
While supporting the sovereign rights of governments to not be colonized is important, those of us trying to create a world worth living in can't stop at that.

Un alto dirigente del sindicato de una empresa explotadora de carbón en La Jagua de Ibirico resultó ileso de un atentado criminal perpetrado en su residencia, hasta donde ingresó un pistolero en la madrugada de ayer para asesinarlo, le hizo el primer disparo, pero lo ‘peló’ y cuando intentó accionar nuevamente el gatillo, la pistola se le ‘encasquilló’.
El fallido atentado criminal fue perpetrado contra Alberto Bautista, vicepresidente de la empresa Compañía Minera Unida (CMU), encargada de explotar un área de carbón en esa localidad, quien se estaba bañándo en el patio de su casa para trasladarse a su lugar de trabajo, cuando fue sorprendido por el sicario, quien no cumplió con el cometido.
El líder sindical confirmó que el hecho se registró a pocos metros de la Estación de Policía, donde está ubicada su vivienda, y agregó que el baño donde reside está construido en el patio del bien inmueble, razón por la cual para hacer las necesidades fisiológicas o en su cuerpo, debe sortearla saliendo al fondo del patio.
“Me estaba bañando cuando observé algo extraño; de repente me salió el tipo con el arma en la mano y de inmediato me hizo un tiro, pero no me pegó. Yo salí corriendo y el hombre accionó nuevamente la pistola, pero no le disparó, lo que aproveché para entrar a la casa a encerrarme. A los pocos minutos llegó la Policía para verificar lo sucedido, pero no fue muy minuciosa”, denunció el dirigente sindical.
Bautista recordó que hace unos meses también fue objeto de otro atentado contra su vida. Dijo desconocer de dónde le podían provenir tales amenazas para liquidarlo.
